Arsenic Loves Mexico

Screen Shot 2018-04-23 at 4.43.34 PM.png

Mexico has given the world its best filmmaker 4 years in a row. Yeah, we talking Oscar for Best Director. Brilliance of imagination. Extraordinary visual storytelling. Excellence in artistic expression.

Those strands are woven into the fabric of Mexico. Explains why we’ve fallen in love. Because those qualities are aspirationally Arsenic. This was Arsenic’s 3rd MX excursion:Cabo, Mexico City (CDMX), and now Monterrey.

Bud Light Warehouse

Screen Shot 2018-04-23 at 4.43.47 PM.png

What Bud Light is doing in Mexico is lit. Making Bud Light Warehouse a platform to mashup the dopest elements of culture: both from Mexico and international. Andtogether with Arsenic they aim not just to showcase culture, but shape it.

Like their pool party we hit. Playlist dope af. Eclectic. 70s disco. Tropical house. Latin EDM. Putting us on that new new and hitting us with the tracks we love.

And the crowd’s style was on point. This was a no fresa zone. Lotta different looks. Also some trends we clocked. We gonna go cop some blue jeans and white tees and bring some of these looks back to LA. We love dope style. First time (of many) we had Steve Aoki on Arsenic was on our style channel.

Bud Light crushed it on style. They launched their own line which felt like Supreme. They took us into the showroom and swagged us out. Fresh to death.

At Arsenic, Music is Life

Screen Shot 2018-04-23 at 4.44.05 PM.png

We stay on our music grind. Bud Light does too. Their exec team didn’t feel like “suits.” They felt like cultural curators. One of them is a DJ himself. They introduced us to Mario Bautista and he hung at our table with us when Bud Light took us out to the club. He was good vibes af. Warm. Always smiling. Humble.

Then we met up with some friends performing nearby. We consider Autograf part of the Arsenic fam. They are a glimpse into the future of electronic music. An art project that combines digital music with live elements, art, and fashion. We checked out their show, and got up on stage with them, and rocked the stadium. Our squad also stormed the stage with Gryffin. And hung backstage with Mike PerrySNBRN, and Win and Woo. And of course we were on stage with our very own Madds who was killing the crowd with her set (yeah, one of the early Arsenic Girls now touring the world as a DJ).

We Had THAT Squad

Screen Shot 2018-04-23 at 4.44.22 PM.png

Our squad was legit af. Mad flavors. Good vibes. All love. And these girls aren’t just friends on camera. They have each others backs - and serve as a support network to one another. Your Arsenic fam is the family you choose.

Meg ZanyThe inimitable pink-hair street artist and activist. She’s rocked music videos and TV shows. Netflix, Fox Searchlight, Lululemon, and Coach all fuck with her. “Meg represents the feminist ideals and values that led me to start my company, Arsenic.” -Amanda Micallef, Arsenic (from Downtown Women’s Center press release).

Tasha Courtney. One of the first models to shoot with Arsenic, we met her at an open casting where we posted - “anyone can shoot with Arsenic, just comment if you want to.” We worked closely with her and she has grown into an agency model. Her day rate is rich af and she’s launching her own podcast.

Michelle Xuxu. One of the first of the Arsenic fam, she’s helped build us to where we are. Mostly behind the scenes, she’s spent most of her time curating who we work with. She led our Art Basel with Marcel Katz & Oliver Cole Gallery event which got some love in Forbes. She’s the plug at Arsenic. Oh, and btw, she models as well.

Holly Barker. A fitness influencer with 400k followers. She founded and owns over 4 health and wellness focused spas. She’s got beauty, brains, and brawn. She writes articles. Crushes bodybuilding competitions. And is a top personal trainer and nutritionist.

Nesha Torres. A female photographer who also models at times. She’s been shooting since a teenager, and blew up fast af. At age 18, she graduated high school and immediately became an official photographer for the Warped Tour. She’s also a stylist and has her own content creation and social media management company.

Casa De Arsenic, MX

Screen Shot 2018-04-23 at 4.44.35 PM.png

Fans came up to us 4 different times recognizing us and telling us how hard they fuck with Arsenic. We didn’t know Mexico had love like that for us. And we already told you how much we love Mexico. Begs the question...

Should we launch an Arsenic House in Mexico? Where? How should it be run? Hit us back on this email with your thoughts & opinions.

WTF U Mean Arsenic is the Next MTV?!

Screen Shot 2018-04-16 at 1.03.10 PM.png

Arsenic is the next MTV! One of our squad said it at a Community Meeting. Legit statement? We’ll come back to that. But, coming out of Chella, we thought we’d break down some music shit on an elemental Arsenic level.

Music is Our Drug

Screen Shot 2018-04-16 at 1.07.57 PM.png

Since there’s been Arsenic, there’s been music. Shit, before Arsenic was even born we had pool parties up in a “magic bungalow” in Laurel Canyon. We didn’t hire DJs. Fuck that. First of all, we didn’t have the money.

But second of all, we LOVED to geek out on the playlist. We’re looking at that first playlist right now. It has chapters, each chapter a different type of music. Because we draw an eclectic crowd. Because we have eclectic taste. I mean hell, even our founders are eclectic. One a formula race car driving woman from the red state of Texas. The other a multi-racial man whose mom was a public school teacher in the part of Washington DC with the highest crime rate. (Scroll hard for highlights from that list.)

Music Gets Arsenic

Screen Shot 2018-04-16 at 1.09.23 PM.png

Outside of our core community of models & visual artists, music artists were the first to get Arsenic. It wasn’t through their labels, it was the music artists themselves.

First of all, turns out they were watching Arsenic. For whatever reason we have one of the highest percentage of celebrity audience. So they’re watching. And what do they see. A photoshoot. A pool party (yeah, we threw a lot). An art session. Doesn't matter what it was, the music was always flowing. ILoveMakonnen had 2 of the first tracks we had on repeat. Tuesday (f. Drake) and Wrist (f. Father). We can’t remember the order after that. But Capitol Records had us broadcast a VIP tour of their building. Steve Aoki did a style sesh. Diplo did an interview. Jeremih had us broadcast a tour of his house. Gucci Mane took over fresh out the feds. Cassie, Nervo, Tinashe, Skrillex, 2 Chainz, Future, Zedd, Fetty, Dillon Francis, Major Lazer, and on and on and on.

These were the same artists from our original playlist. It’s like that playlist came to life in the Arsenic House. And that’s us living our best Arsenic life.

Why Music?

Screen Shot 2018-04-16 at 1.10.57 PM.png

Gonna start the answer with a look at hip hop. We love hip hop. As much for the history as the music.

Hip hop was once rejected by mainstream society. Too edgy. Too dangerous. Brands partner with hip hop? #HellNah. The “Parental Advisory” sticker was born. NWA was banned. Congress literally held hearings.

But youth culture embraced it. Despite the fact that the establishment was trying to shut it down (hell, maybe because their parents said no) kids wanted their hip hop.

And it evolved. From fringe underground movement to legitimately shaping pop. Dr. Dre went from untouchable “thug” rapping about violence & drugs to being a major shareholder in Apple. Think about that. From Compton to Cupertino.

So in our opinion music has and will always have 2 things. 1) It’s got the minds, hearts, and souls that live at the cutting edge of society. Artists who break barriers and venture into the off-limits areas. 2) Those artists have the talent and sensitivity to communicate what they find over the edge, back to the world. In a way that moves the world forward. Makes sense. Music is a drug. It’s pure emotion. When we hear it we don’t hear it with our intellect. It goes right to our heart.

Arsenic Evolves Like Music

Screen Shot 2018-04-16 at 1.12.43 PM.png

Arsenic’s not nearly as big as hip hop. We get that. But we’ve definitely been edgy enough the mainstream didn’t know what to do with us.

And we’ve seen Arsenic evolve like hip hop. Edgy beginnings. Then music artists. And after music embraced us the fire spread: Yasiel Puig (LA Dodgers), Kaleigh Gilchrist (she won an olympic gold medal), Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), Anthony Napolitan (X-Games), Forbes, Business Insider, Bloomberg Businessweek, Live Nation, Lionsgate, Honest Company, Nitro Circus, UTA, Atlantic Records, Bud Light, Ultra, Austin City Limits, Rolls Royce, Lollapalooza… and MTV. Yeah we covered the red carpet at the MTV Awards.

We continue to evolve. The music at the Arsenic House stays fresh. We’ll see about a TV show. And as long as you all stay a part of what we’re doing we’ll keep winning.

Because 3 million people won’t be stopped.

P.S. Arsenic's First Playlist

Screen Shot 2018-04-16 at 1.14.00 PM.png

P.S. While writing this, the playlist from that first pool party is bumping. Click here for the full playlist. There’s music for days on there, but here’s a little hit of it, to give you the flavor:

  • Hip Shit (I Follow Rivers Magician Remix - Lykke Li; Valerie Revisited - Mark Ronson; The Passenger - Iggy Pop; Get Free - Major Lazer)
  • Flip Hop (Bonfire - Childish Gambino; American Boy - Estelle, Kanye; Mr. Rager - Kid Cudi)
  • Hip Hop Takeover (We Dem Boyz - Wiz Khalifa; Don’t Like - Kanye, Chief Keef; Fuckin Problems - Drake)
  • Wheels Up (Clarity - Zedd; Pompeii Remix - Bastille)
  • Hip Hopstery (Scenario Remix - Tribe Called Quest; Sabotage - Beastie; It’s Tricky - Run DMC)
  • Claro Que Si (Danza Kudoro - Don Omar; Vivir Mi Vida - Marc Anthony)
  • Paper, Scissors (Start Me Up - Rolling Stones; Blinded by The Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band)

Stillhouse Warmed it Up

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 1.54.47 PM.png

If you’ve partied with us, or seen us party, hit us on this email with your favorite Arsenic party moments.

A stack of people were saying that the Arsenic Stillhouse Warming party this weekend was the best. If you missed it, quick background. We were traveling for 6 months on the #ArsenicWorldTour. Austin City Limits (Stillhouse, WAV); Art Basel (Forbes, @theartplug, Guy Hepner); Dominican Republic (Anheuser-Busch); Salt Lake City (Nitro Circus); Lollapalooza (Atlantic Records); and anotha one and anotha one.

We got back, got a new Arsenic House (which btw is our favorite ever), and G-Eazy’sStillhouse was rad enough to throw us a housewarming party.

Stillhouse Gets It

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 1.55.01 PM.png

Our favorite feedback? “It didn’t feel like a party as much as hangin at your best friend’s house, if you happened to have the dopest best friend in the world.”

That’s not an easy thing to do when a brand hires you. Some brands forget that people respond most powerfully to what’s real. A genuine experience. Actually having an amazing time. And a brand that’s a part of that moment of your life. That’s what moves people. That’s how brands become iconic. Some brands pay and get too grandpa-corporate.

Stillhouse never makes that mistake. Brad Beckerman their CEO has a squad that gets it, and rocks it at the top of the game. G-Eazy is a mogul. He and his team are building an empire and he’s keeping it real the whole time.

"Arsenic is diverse AF"

One compliment we loved at the party: “Arsenic is diverse AF.” We asked what the person meant by it. They broke it down that the crowd had everything: art community, music world, beauty, business influencers, the cool kids -- the perfect mix.

At Arsenic, Music is Life

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 1.55.11 PM.png

Some people felt like it was a music industry party. We had peeps from all aspects of the biz. Music artists like DRAM spreading his good vibes while we let Broccoli flow. Anderson .Paak rolled thru, which was dope, because we got his tracks on repeat at the house likeCome Down and Glowed Up. Squad from Capitol Records was in full effect and Intercope was on scene. We consider Soundz an Arsenic music artist. He covered the officialGrammy red carpet for us. We love him because his vibe is rad. He’s part of our community: like he was there for the Town Hall Meeting. He’s a music artist himself and he supports other artists. He’s produced tracks for Rhianna, Justin Bieber, our boy Jeremih, and more. Clock his EP as an artist, Turbo Gold.

We also have big love for Eyes, who directs for Drake, Migos, Jhené Aiko, and more. He’s been mad supportive of the Arsenic movement. We got to know the man behind the Okeechobee music festival and we were impressed af. An agent from UTA was talking that agent talk.

I’m not a businessman. I’m a business, man.

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 1.55.22 PM.png

Businessman or businesswoman… in the way there’s social media influencers, there’s business influencers. They hold down positions of sway at major companies. They connect to culture and the cutting edge of trend. And they were hanging at the Arsenic House.

We welcomed the key execs from a live streaming company that could become the next “it” platform. We’re getting to know them and the app better to let you guys know if we feel like you all need to check it out. Media companies/platforms were in the house likeNetflix, Vice, and Facebook. Sports like Nitro Circus and VaynerSports. Agencies likeUTA live events and Gersh TV. Apparel like Popular Demand, Monica is a boss and has shown us love since our OG days. Investors. And connectors.

Bigger than Game of Thrones

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 1.55.31 PM.png

Arsenic embraces social media. If you add up the followers of the squad from this weekend you’d get more people than watched the biggest episode ever of Game of Thrones. Twice as much.

That already has some other brands asking about how to get integrated into the house like Stillhouse. We’ll see. We’re only gonna put you on that ish we think is dope.

What did people say?

Screen Shot 2018-04-02 at 1.55.45 PM.png

“Wow. Arsenic House is full of wonderful humans.” - Kathleen McPhee (Film exec)

“I literally enjoyed every minute.” @directedbyeyes (Director)

“I love the vibes of the house /team so thank you again for letting me be a part of yesterday.” @kelleyfarlowe (Photographer)

"What I love about Arsenic, you've been the support system for so many people."@o.susana (Model)

“I love the fact that I feel such a strong encouragement of freedom and creativity from Arsenic.” @kennedyjonestho (DJ)

Full Stillhouse

Screen Shot 2018-04-15 at 11.26.18 AM.png

You already know G-Eazy’s Stillhouse is throwing us a housewarming party this SaturdayWe had to close the list, but it’s important to us you understand that inclusiveness is part of our core beliefs at Arsenic.

One of the things we’re most proud of is the “vibe” at the Arsenic House. One of our friends from Warner Bros Records called it “Andy Warhol’s the Factory meets the Playboy Mansion.” A lot of people don’t fully get who we are until they experience the house. Part of that vibe is balance. Being open while also curating so it’s not overcrowded. So to hell with “you can’t sit with us.” You can ALL sit with us. Just not all at the same table, at the same time.

When you see the party on social you’ll clock some of you we slotted from the community. And make no mistake if you can’t make it to this event, know that Arsenic party season is just getting started.

SBE + Arsenic Partnership & Party

Screen Shot 2018-04-15 at 11.26.35 AM.png

Keep an eye out for the upcoming party we’ll be throwing in partnership with SBE. Y’all know SBE. One of the biggest hospitality & nightlife groups on the scene. Hotels, restaurants, clubs... in LA and around the world.

We’ll be taking over one of their venues to create an experience that is pure, uncut Arsenic. You may have seen us at a table out in Vegas or LA before, but in the history of Arsenic we’ve never taken over a nightlife venue before. We’re notorious for some of the parties we’ve had at the Arsenic House, and seeing that come to life out at a venue that y’all can join is about to be lit. Stay tuned for more details on that.

WYM, Female Empowerment?

Screen Shot 2018-04-15 at 11.26.51 AM.png

Friday, Michelle Xuxu curated a rad hang at the houseKrisondraMartaCarey Hess, one of the OG squad Brooke Eliot (she started us on Snap), Jennie GunsAllana Maunai(who is becoming a leader in the community), and more.

Meg Zany spoke up in a really interesting discussion about female empowerment.

We were talking about how Meg’s career has been taking off. She’s started to getrecognized when she goes out in public (“Wait, what? You’re @megzany!”), which is a bit more rare for an artist than a traditional model.

Someone noted, the dope thing about Meg Zany isn’t just that she’s blowing up, but that her success is built 100% on the foundation of what she stands for: empowerment.

At Arsenic we’ve been talking a lot about the best language to describe the Arsenic philosophy. Sex-positive feminism? Female empowerment? Female sexual-empowerment? We asked Meg what she thought. If we talk about Arsenic as female empowerment is that bad, because much of our content is provocative?

Meg said her push for empowerment is genderless (you can see the video of her mural here - Feminism is a Club for Boys & Girls). Empowerment is about “giving people the permission to do what the fuck they want.” Which is exactly what Arsenic does, she said.

So what do YOU think? What do you feel we stand for, and what’s the right or wrong language to use. Just reply to this email and let us know. We’d love to share a response or two from what you guys send us.

“America’s Finest” Housewarming

Screen Shot 2018-03-19 at 3.21.15 PM.png

Stillhouse (America’s Finest) Whiskey is throwing us a housewarming party at the new Arsenic House. We call that a Stillhouse Warming and that’s the situation, end of this month.

Y’all remember Stillhouse, right? G-Eazy is investor, partner and creative director. We followed our coverage of Austin City Limits music festival with a Stillhouse block party.G-Eazy was in attendance and performed. His girl Halsey (who btw, is Wonder Womanin upcoming Teen Titans) was in the house too. News broadcasts covered it. Some of y’all drove hours to be part of it with us, and Arsenic shut the block down. Epic.

Wonder Woman (Halsey) Hit Our Block Party

Screen Shot 2018-03-19 at 3.21.27 PM.png

Arsenic is for the people, by the people, so just reply to this email if you wanna party with us. We’re gonna save some spots for you.

So last week, Arsenic squad goes over to the Stillhouse offices to do some party planning. Brad Beckerman (their truly visionary CEO) welcomes us and walks us toward the back of the office space… to a dead-end wall. Awkward pause… we don’t get it… then he pushes on the wall. And the wall opens. Speakeasy style, hidden behind the wall is what looks like Al Capone’s private bar. Gangster. Dope.

That’s why we fuck with Stillhouse. They get brand. They get that extra soul that makes the difference between solid... and special. Their marketing guru, Andrei McQuillan gave us a tasting of the different flavors, and their new bourbon (in that sick all black can). And 2 drinks in, it’s like “we IN.”

G-Eazy & Stillhouse in Forbes

Screen Shot 2018-03-19 at 3.21.39 PM.png

Stillhouse is like the only Whiskey we’ve been drinking at the Arsenic House. And both G-Eazy and Stillhouse keep blowing up. If you didn’t know, clock this. G-Eazy at age 27 hits the Forbes list. Then Stillhouse (G-Eazy & Brad Beckerman) get a profile in Forbes. G-Eazy is currently killing it on tour and we’ve been fucking with him since his first takeover on ArsenicAUDIO a year and a half ago.

And all the people we know, who know about the liquor industry say the same thing:Stillhouse is taking over the whiskey game. 100%.

Our favorite part? The Stillhouse squad are people we’d want to hang with anyway. So we get to party with dope people as a career path. #JobGoals

Arsenic Philanthropy = DWC + Meg Zany

Screen Shot 2018-03-19 at 3.13.38 PM.png

If you were watching Fox news, then you saw on International Women’s DayArsenic & Arsenic Girl artist Meg Zany partnered with the Downtown Women’s Center to bring attention to the cause of homeless women.

Meg Zany, who continues her art world takeover, created her 24-foot Diversity is a Gift mural on the wall of the DWC residence. The building houses 48 formerly homeless women in permanent supportive housing units and was the original site of DWC’s services.

Now Meg Zany and Arsenic are a part of the structure that houses and helps women in need through Meg’s art, her signature, and the Arsenic symbol emblazoned on the DWCbuilding.

Meg Zany told the Fox reporter: It really fell together magically. It’s amazing because Arsenic is founded by a woman, I’m clearly a woman, and Downtown Women’s Center is helping women.

“Meg represents the feminist ideals and values that led me to start my company, Arsenic. She’s a brilliant artist and a multi-faceted female who believes in using her gifts to inspire others. We’re honored to collaborate with DWC as it empowers women in Los Angeles to reach personal stability.” (That’s what Arsenic Boss Lady Amanda Micallef had to say.)

Screen Shot 2018-03-19 at 3.13.51 PM.png

It’s dope that together we achieved the fastest selling piece we’ve had in the Arsenic Community. So we want to keep getting you guys involved. Doesn’t matter if you’re a streetwear expert or you don’t know a damn thing. If you love Arsenic and want to get more involved just reply to this email and let us know what’s up.

Cable TV at the Arsenic House

Screen Shot 2018-03-19 at 3.14.12 PM.png

This Friday at the Arsenic House a production company started shooting the pilot sizzlefor the cable TV project we’re developing together. It was cool to have the cameras rolling at the house, but tbh that’s not the thing we were really digging. We’ve had interest from reality TV before, but what made this different was that these producers really get it when it comes to Arsenic.

The TV producers talked about the project as a documentary-series about Arsenic. If you’ve seen one of our favorite docs, The Defiant Ones, that gives you a sense of tone.

One quote from the TV producer about us:
At the intersection of Insta-fame and DIY exceptionalism sits Arsenic: a female founded publishing empire that stands alone as the natural heir to Playboy and the traditional lad magazine. Unfolding daily across Instagram and Snapchat, Arsenic has captivated audiences worldwide by flipping a simple maxim: they’ve placed creative control into the hands of their female models.

The producer made a few powerful points that convinced us to proceed with the show:

Female sexual empowerment is becoming more embraced in society. You ever read The Scarlet Letter in school? Homegirl has an affair, people find out, and they basically put her though the most extreme slut-shaming situation you can imagine, including making her wear a scarlet colored letter A at all times, so everyone she encounters can see her “shame.” Women don’t have to wear letters anymore, but slut shaming is real. And often in recent history a woman’s worth is deemed lesser (sometimes even by other women) based on how she expresses herself sexually. The producer declared that Arsenic stands as a champion of sex-positive feminism and a woman having the right not only over her body, but her personal expression - without judgement. This movement is gaining momentum around the world.

The women of Arsenic are multi-dimensional. Beyond the 2 dimensional images you see scrolling through your Instagram, these are real women who beyond their powerful sex appeal, have stories, strength, and sensitivity. The producers interviewed many of them: a doctorate student; a major artist and activist; a police officer in a major city applauded by the mayor; an entrepreneur who started a movement like #freethenipple; a rapidly rising corporate executive, struggling with how her modeling might conflict with perception at her company; one of the key members of the Arsenic team whose success and rise is far beyond her age-level and experience; and many more. We’d have to write a book to do justice to the full stories of the 5,000+ we’ve collaborated with. And we respect and value each and every one.

Media is becoming more democratized. More than ever, power is in the hands of the people. It used to be an actress would have to go through one of only a handful of movie studios to have an opportunity. These gatekeepers had all the power. In an analogous way, agencies concentrated so much power in the modeling industry. Arsenic blew up because we embraced the new world order as early as anyone: anyone with an iPhone can create their content, put it out to the world, and if it resonates with an audience they can be bigger than the gatekeepers. Just like Amanda used her iPhone grow bigger than MTV.

So the thought, Arsenic sitting at the intersection of all these powerful global forces makes for a must-watch show. Reply to this email, and let us know what you think.

Bud Light Brings Arsenic to Mexico

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 11.48.25 AM.png

Bud Light has hired Arsenic

Word? True af. To bring the Arsenic House vibe to the Bud Light Hotel in Mexico for a music festival.

We’re taking 3-4 of you with us, so hit Duolingo for some Spanish lessons and reply to this email if you wanna roll with us.

What’s the Bud Light Hotel? Bud Light has done a full takeover of one of the dopest Hotels in Mexico. They know how to do it right and they’ve created an incredible experiential destination for music artists; industry types; and influencers. They have everything…. Except that Arsenic vibe.

Bud Light saw what Arsenic has been doing as we grow our music vertical, art, and most of all the sense of community you are all apart of. So they hit us up to join them and now Bud Light Hotel domination is complete.

They got connected to us through one of you. Which we love, so we want to get you all even more involved as Arsenic continues to expand. Hit us anytime at Partnerships@Arsenic.TV about other dope business opportunities like this.

Standing Room Only at Arsenic

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 11.48.36 AM.png

We had the Arsenic Town Hall meeting and it was sick. It rained, but the turnout was much bigger than we expected.

There weren’t enough chairs for everyone, people were sitting on the floors, standing, and even spilling out into an overflow area. It was an open discussion and everyone had an equal voice to discuss who we are and where we go from here. Some things that came up.

Amanda (Arsenic’s female founder) is Badass
Amanda our female founder get an incredible ovation. We talked about how she’s a female Formula race car driver; kicked ass in the the Gumball Rally; became a casting director at age 18; produced her first movie at age 24 (which featured Julia Roberts), is on the board of 6 companies; and is a champion of the sex-positive feminism movement that is her motivation for Arsenic.

Arsenic Supports Creatives
The theme that kept coming is how Arsenic is a Community of creatives that supports one another, and that the Arsenic House is an environment where creatives flourish.

One aspect of that was female sexual empowerment. Several women spoke up to say they love what Arsenic stands for: that a woman can be sexy and more than sexy all in one woman. They said that too often if a woman is perceived as sexy, it’s assumed she must not be as smart, or capable, or talented, or valuable. But that at Arsenic it’s clear that if a woman chooses to be sexy it is by no means mutually exclusive with all of the other amazing and wonderful things a woman can be! Also, several people went out of their way to applaud how Arsenic shows more than just an “agency model” or “fashion magazine” type of body. Unlike legacy agencies which had rules like “if you’re under 5’8” you need not apply,” Arsenic has no rules around who we collaborate with. We just want dope people, and we want you to tell us who’s dope.

#FirstFridays = Town Hall

Screen Shot 2018-03-01 at 11.42.43 AM.png

The #FirstFridays of every month we have an Arsenic Town Hall Meeting. This Friday, March 2nd will be the first at the new Arsenic House in the hills of Los Feliz in Los Angeles, CA.

If you’re gonna be near LA and wanna join, just reply to this email.

What’s a Town Hall meeting? They started at the beginning of Arsenic. We’d have staff meetings of our little 3 person staff and we’d post on Instagram asking who wants to join. People from the community would come into the meeting and we’d make decisions together about what Arsenic should do and how. The key is that everyone’s voice was treated as equal. And with a community of people showing us love, we grew together.

It’s gotten much bigger by now. We have 25 spaces now, and we go through all of the submissions to invite a cross section of people wanting to help shape Arsenic. So whether you’re a fan, an artist, aspiring model, an Arsenic collaborator, photographer, music artist, or really just anyone dope who fucks with Arsenic, we love having you be part of the discussion with us.

What We Mean by #GirlPower

Screen Shot 2018-03-01 at 11.42.55 AM.png

Once again the vibes were flowing at the Arsenic House on Friday. What made this past Friday a lil different?

We had a dope discussion sesh. The topic? “Insta Models” vs. “Real Models”

It started organically. A group of us (like 6-10) were in the kitchen chilling. Maddy (not her real name - she didn’t want her name repeated for these purposes) mentioned a serious issue her former roommate had. Maddy is a model signed with a major agency. Her roomie was also.

And that major agency told her roomie, “you have 1 week to lose 1 inch [from your waistline] or we’re sending you back to Oregon.” Maddy’s roomie freaked out. She turned to some unhealthy methods to try to lose the 1 inch in a week. The result? Her agency still sent her home.

One of the Arsenic core squad was livid. What right do these people have to tell a woman what to do with her body, how to look, or how to live!? At Arsenic we say to everyone who collabs with us: Do you! Be you! Live your life! And don’t give a fuck what anyone else says about it. That’s what we mean by #GirlPower.

That’s been the beauty of social media. It used to be that if you were under 5’8” the major agencies wouldn’t even give you a 2nd look. Now, anyone with ANY look can jump on social media and put our their message to the world. If it resonates, they can build an audience. With NO gatekeeper. No power structure telling them what people will like. That’s what Arsenic embraced from our birth - forget about the establishment, the world is changing and the people have the power!

We’ve worked with a really wide range of women. Agency models, fitness models, you name it. We’ve even met with top people from the major agencies, but we never limit to just agency looks. Just this Friday here at the Arsenic House @vendelali was rocking her shaved head and dope vibes. @leeanajacobs was here again (she’s an agency model that’s fast becoming fam). @xogumbyy was intelligent and analytical about her choices to build a “male friendly” brand and blow up to 239k followers in only a few months. And fresh face @akiladahun was checking things out. She has her own skin care line and hasn’t considered herself a “model,” but she seemed to feel comfortable as we saw her jump in and start shooting.

For #MotivationalMondays we had a boxing workout sesh. @miskasykora has been our go-to stylist. She’s also a model. We didn’t know her boxing skills. She’s the one who brought in @eddiearrazola to give a free boxing workout to the squad invited.

What blew our mind was watching @miskasykora go #BeastMode. She’s more than gorgeous - she can kick ass. Go comment on her Insta and ask her to post one of the videos of her killing the boxing game.
